Bios Life Success Story

For eleven years, I have struggled with diabetes. I have had seven eye surgeries, have lost my left eye, and have diminished vision in my right eye due to diabetic retinopathy. In July of last year, I was taking 220 units of insulin a day. I had gained 50 pounds and still had blood sugar levels running from 190 to 390. My doctor took me off insulin and started me on maximum doses of Glucophage and Amaryl. After several months, he told me these drugs were not working. I was scared.

Meanwhile my business partner told me about a nonprescription, natural product that was helping other people control their blood sugar levels. At this point, what did I have to lose? I took a packet of Bios Life 2 and a list of ingredients to my endocrinologist. He said, “There is nothing in this that can hurt you.” On January 9th I started taking Rx for Life (containing Bios Life® 2) while on Amaryl and Glucophage with no insulin. In less than one week, my blood sugar was 153, in two weeks under 100 and have had blood sugar readings of less than 80. I reduced the Glucophage by 2/3 and Amaryl to 1/2 of the original dose So far, I have lost 32 pounds.

My last examination by my eye surgeon showed no new leakage and no new bleeding in my eyes. I am saving the vision I have left. I needed a miracle and I thank God for guiding me to this.

New Facts About Heart Disease

Lower Cholesterol Levels Recommended

In a previous edition, we reported that the medical community was re-examining its recommendation for “healthy” cholesterol levels. That review is now complete and the results are as we expected: those at high-to-moderate risk for heart disease are urged to be more aggressive about lowering their LDL cholesterol (the “bad” cholesterol).

The July 2004 edition of Circulation: Journal of the American Heart Association included the new recommendations, which have been endorsed by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI); the American College of Cardiology; and the American Heart Association.

Harvard Medical School told news organizations, “Super-low cholesterol reduced death from any cause by 28 percent and fatal heart attacks by 18 percent.”
Consumer Advocacy Group Urges FDA to Pull Another Statin From the Market

If you keep up with prescription drug news, you’ve undoubtedly heard of statin drugs. This family of drugs is designed to help reduce cholesterol and includes the top two-selling prescription drugs worldwide.

While these drugs are recognized for their ability to help lower cholesterol, they’re also known for the dangerous side effects they create. A few examples include:
* May change, weaken, damage or destroy muscle
* Have been linked to cancer
* May damage liver and kidneys
* May induce sudden total memory loss
* May increase eye cataract risk
* May suppress immune function

A few years ago, the Federal Drug Administration (FDA) removed a popular statin drug called Baycol from the market due to its life-threatening side effects. And now, a consumer advocacy group is urging the FDA to ban another statin called Crestor, citing its role in a muscle-destroying condition and even kidney failure.

As more data is collected on Crestor, we’ll keep you up-to-date on the public debate that’s sure to continue. In the meantime, make sure those you care about are aware of Bios Life 2 — the only clinically proven, safe alternative to statin drugs.
New Diabetes Estimates Show Even Greater Growth

The World Health Organization (WHO) has released new projections for the growth rate of diabetes, and the new estimates show that the number of diabetics worldwide will double by the year 2030. Researchers expect to see more rapid growth of diabetes in the United States than what the Center for Disease Control (CDC) has predicted. The WHO estimates that there will be 30.3 million Americans with diabetes by 2030.

Researchers called for a global effort to address this epidemic, noting that rising diabetes rates will lead to more deaths from cardiovascular disease and other complications of diabetes.

Be Heart Smart

Know Thy Salad

As Americans set out to increase the amount of fiber in their diets, some begin eating more salads thinking that lettuce is a fiber-filled food. But in America, most salads include a heaping serving of iceberg lettuce, which is very light on nutrition. For example, to meet your dietary fiber needs by eating iceberg lettuce, you’d have to eat more than five heads a day. (Hope you like lettuce!)

The good news is that there are many types of lettuce, and most offer more nutrition than iceberg. Let’s take a quick look at two popular forms that can give your salads a significant nutritional boost — and greater taste!

Romaine Lettuce
* An excellent source of vitamin A, folate, vitamin C, vitamin B1, vitamin B2, manganese and chromium.
* A very good source of dietary fiber, potassium, iron, phosphorus and biotin.
* A good source of calcium, several B vitamins, vitamin E, protein and more.

Spinach
* An excellent source of vitamin A, vitamin C, folate and vitamin K.
* A very good source of iron, manganese, magnesium and riboflavin.
* A good source of dietary fiber, potassium, vitamin B6, vitamin B1, vitamin E and calcium.

When eating at restaurants, ask if they will use romaine lettuce, spinach or another form of lettuce rather than iceberg. Many restaurants will accommodate your request but use iceberg as the default often due to its low cost.

For a heart-healthy bonus, top off your salad with almonds or other nuts along with an olive-oil based salad dressing to promote healthy levels of HDL (the good cholesterol).
Not All “Wheat” Products Are Created Equally

Americans are finally hearing the message that whole grains help protect your body from cardiovascular disease, diabetes, cancers and many other unwanted conditions for which products made from refined flours can leave you vulnerable. Food manufacturers have caught on to the trend, too, but not with the same goal in mind.

Many manufacturers sell breads and cereals marked as “wheat” that are actually made from refined, white flour that’s been colored with molasses or caramel food coloring to make it look more healthy. While this practice may fill companies’ pockets, it leaves the consumer empty on heart-healthy soluble fiber, phytochemicals and key vitamins and minerals found in whole grains.

Next time you shop for wheat products, here’s how you can make sure you’re selecting true whole-grain products.
* Check the Nutrition Facts panel for ingredients such as whole wheat, whole oats, whole rye, cracked wheat, whole barley, brown rice, bulgur, graham flour, whole-grain corn, oatmeal, popcorn or pearl barley. Make sure at least one of these ingredients appears first on the list of ingredients.
* Look for the FDA’s label claim that’s approved for products that contain 51 percent or more of whole-grain ingredients. The claim is: “Diets rich in whole grain foods and other plant foods low in total fat, saturated fat, and cholesterol may reduce the risk of heart disease and certain cancers.”
* Look for another FDA label claim — “100% Whole Grain” — approved for such products.
How Bios Life 2® Works

Bios Life 2’s Powerful Ingredients Help Lower Cholesterol and Stabilize Blood Sugar Levels

Bios Life 2 is the only safe, clinically proven product that helps lower cholesterol without side effects and simultaneously helps stabilize blood sugar levels, lowering your risk for diabetes.

In addition to supplying key vitamins and antioxidants, this powerful product provides a patented matrix of dietary fibers — 4.5 grams of soluble and insoluble fiber in each serving. Let’s look at the fibers that, when combined through Unicity’s proprietary technology, deliver the product’s life-saving benefits:

* Guar Gum: A fiber that forms a gel and binds with bile acids and fat to support stable blood glucose and healthy cholesterol levels.

* Gum Arabic: A soluble fiber from the acacia tree.

* Locust Bean Gum: A fiber derived from the seeds of the carob tree that supports healthy cholesterol.

* Pectin: A gel-forming fiber derived from the peels of fruits that supports healthy cholesterol levels.

When taken about 10 minutes before a meal with 8-10 ounces of water or juice, this patented matrix helps stabilize blood sugar levels as you eat and forms a gel mass in your stomach. The gel mass absorbs cholesterol that your body naturally secretes during digestion, and it carries that cholesterol out of the body. In addition, Bios Life 2 helps prevent the reabsorption of bile acids from the small intestines, instead helping them to be excreted.

The result? A more healthy blood sugar rise and fall following a meal and, when Bios Life 2 is taken consistently, a drop in total cholesterol, LDL (the bad cholesterol) and triglycerides.

Powerful benefits from a powerful product that is free of side effects!
Bios Life Research Results

Bios Life 2’s patented formula has been tested in multiple clinical studies designed to measure its effectiveness. This month, let’s take a closer look at the study conducted at the independent, highly regarded Cleveland Clinic.

The Cleveland Clinic conducted a double-blind, placebo-controlled study on Bios Life 2. “Placebo controlled” means that one set of patients was given Bios Life 2 while another set was given a placebo. “Double blind” means that neither the patients nor the researchers knew which individuals were taking Bios Life 2 or a placebo. These controls help ensure that the results are objective and scientifically accurate.

Participants began following a low-fat diet six weeks before the study began, and they had low starting cholesterol levels of 164. Yet, Bios Life 2 still enabled them to achieve impressive results. Results showed that Bios Life 2:
* Reduces LDL and total cholesterol levels [10.3% difference between groups (p10% benefit in LDL reduction.

After reviewing the results, Cleveland Clinic researcher Dennis Sprecker, M.D., said: “Bios Life 2, when taken as directed, imparts a significant cardiovascular risk reduction.”
Bios Life Consumer Results

“Last week I was making some follow up calls to some customers from my Kansas trip. One gentleman who bought Bios Life 2, been on Bios for 6 days, uses a half tablespoon twice a day, told me he was having a problem.

“He said his blood sugar level dropped a lot to where he needed to cut back on his insulin. He then asked if these results should be noted this early and I informed him that some change would be very immediate. Both he and his wife are very pleased, and I plan on following up with him on a weekly basis for some time. Both he and his wife are very excited about the product, but more so that someone actually is taking the time to check in on them.

“This is one very happy man to say the least.”

What is HDL Cholesterol?

What is HDL?

HDL is getting all the buzz lately—but what is it?

HDL is High-Density Lipoprotein—or “good” cholesterol. High levels of HDL seem to protect against heart attack. Low levels of HDL (less than 40 mg/dL) also increase the risk of heart disease. Medical experts think that HDL tends to carry cholesterol away from the arteries and back to the liver, where it’s passed from the body.

In practical terms, the bottom line is simple: The higher your HDL cholesterol, the better. Data from the Framingham Heart Study suggests that raising HDL by 10 mg/dl has a similar reduction for the risk of heart disease than lowering LDL by 60 mg/dl.

In studies presented at the American Heart Association’s 7th Annual Conference, Dr. Peter Verdegem, Unicity Chief Science Officer, presented clinical evidence that showed that Unicity’s Bios Life increased HDL levels by 26.3% in a group of statin users that had HDL levels below 40 mg/dl at baseline. Prescription statin drugs usually treat cholesterol by lowering LDL levels, but do nothing to raise HDL levels.

What is “Bad” Cholesterol?

Low-density lipoprotein, or LDL, is known as “bad” cholesterol. When too much LDL cholesterol circulates in the blood, it can slowly build up in the inner walls of the arteries that feed the heart and brain. Together with other substances, it can form plaque, a thick, hard deposit that can narrow the arteries and make them less flexible. This condition is known as atherosclerosis. If a clot forms and blocks a narrowed artery, a heart attack or a stroke can result.

How HDL Helps

At first, scientists believed that HDL was simply a garbage collector that picked up cholesterol from an artery’s walls and delivered it to the liver for disposal. That’s still considered the main role of HDL, but research is starting to suggest that HDL can help protect the heart in many ways…

Reverse Cholesterol Transport. HDL latches onto LDL embedded in an artery wall, lugs it back into the bloodstream, and carries it to the liver. The liver collects cholesterol from the HDL particles, packages it into bile salts and bile acids, and dumps it into the intestines and rids it from the body.

Antioxidant Activity
. LDL cholesterol in the artery wall is bombarded by oxygen free radicals, which turns it into oxidized LDL cholesterol. Oxidized cholesterol is the stuff that’s actually responsible for arterial damage—and research shows that HDL can help protect LDL cholesterol from free radicals.

Anti-inflammatory Action
. HDL helps to quiet the inflammation of an atherosclerotic plaque. Elevated levels of C-reactive protein (CRP) reflect the inflammation of such a plaque and HDL may neutralize CRP’s tendency to perpetuate the inflammatory cycle.

Antithrombotic Activity. Plaque rupture triggers the formation of an artery-blocking blood clot. By halting the flow of oxygen-rich blood, the clot kills heart muscle cells (heart attack) or brain cells (stroke). HDL reduces clot formation and accelerates the healing process that dissolves clots.

Endothelial Function. Blood vessels plagued with atherosclerosis sustain other damage. In particular, the endothelial cells lining the arteries fail to produce normal amounts of nitric oxide, the chemical that allows arteries to dilate (widen) when tissues need more oxygen. HDL helps preserve nitric oxide production and protect endothelial function.
How Much Does HDL Help?
The Framingham Heart Study was responsible for many landmark discoveries about HDL cholesterol, and the Physicians’ Health Study helped confirm that HDL was protective. Data continues to show that the good cholesterol is very good indeed!

Heart Disease. Low HDL levels are associated with an increased risk of heart attacks, while high levels are protective. According to the Framingham Heart Study, cardiac risk rises sharply as HDL cholesterol levels fall below 40 milligrams per deciliter (mg/dL). In general, each 1 mg/dL rise in an HDL cholesterol level can be expected to cut cardiac risk by 2% to 3%.

Stroke. Strokes come in many forms, but the most common type, ischemic stroke, shares many risk factors with heart attack. High HDL cholesterol levels reduce the risk of stroke; in several studies, HDL cholesterol is a much better predictor of risk than LDL cholesterol, particularly in people older than 75.
Gender Differences Related to Cholesterol
Women benefit from cholesterol-lowering activities as much as men do. Beyond age 45, a greater percentage of women have high cholesterol levels than men, and heart disease has emerged as the leading cause of death among women.

It has also been shown that HDL levels tend to drop in women who have just given birth, and that this reduction can continue for as long as 10 years. However, women are far less likely to seek or receive treatment for high cholesterol. In addition, studies have suggested that high LDL levels are not as significant a risk factor for women as for men.

Longevity. Several investigations suggest that high HDL levels are linked to longevity, particularly exceptional longevity. Other research links high levels of HDL cholesterol to preserved cognitive function in old age.

Merks Trial Drug Cuts Side Effects

Hey Guys,

I just received word that Merk’s trial drug significantly reduces the “flushing” effect that is normally caused by Niacin.
This is big news for Merk and Abbott Laboratories (which makes a competing drug).

Here are some excerpts of the article written by SARAH RUBENSTEIN and WSJ.com:

“In a 1,613-patient randomized study, Merck said 69% of those who took Cordaptive experienced no or mild flushing symptoms during the first week, compared with 44% of those on extended-release niacin without the anti-flushing agent.”

“Niacin doesn’t appear to raise HDL as much as CETP inhibitors — which target the cholesterol ester transfer protein — studied so far, and it doesn’t reduce LDL to the degree that drugs such as Merck’s Zocor and Pfizer Inc.’s Lipitor typically do, says Elliott Antman, director of the coronary-care unit at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. Merck believes improvement of the flushing problem may encourage more patients to take the drug to help control cholesterol.”

You can read the whole cholesterol lowering article here

While Merk is reducing the amount of “flushing” their drug was causing, there are still other side effects that you should be concerned with. We recommend you talk to your doctor before taking any drug.

Another Bios Life Testimonial

When I started taking Bios Life 2 on the recommendation of my physician in February, my weight was 225 and my fasting blood sugar readings were 220 to 240, and that was while taking 58 units of insulin in the morning and 48 in the evening. As of April my weight is 202 (a 23 pound loss) and my fasting blood sugar readings are now 76 to 95. I only take 20 units of Insulin in the morning and 15 in the evening to maintain those readings. Best of all, I don’t have to starve myself to do this. Unicity saved my life.

Bios Life Testimonial – Cloyce

I am a family physician certified in Preventative Health, Occupational Medicine and Bariatric Medicine. I was a flight surgeon, flying in F-16’s and F-15’s in the Kansas Air National Guard. I was also a Clinical Associate Professor with University of Health Sciences College of Osteopathic Medicine and Oklahoma State University College of Osteopathic Medicine. I am currently a member of the Ethics Committee of the American Society of Bariatric Physicians.

In several cases of hereditary hyperlipidemia (high cholesterol and triglycerides), I have seen cholesterol decrease over 300 points and triglycerides over 500 points in one month with BiosLife2. My own cholesterol went from 221 to 177 in 30 days and my current cardiac risk ratio is 2. 7 (below 4. 0 is good).

With BiosLife2’s niacin bound chromium, I have helped diabetics get off 70-120 units of Insulin per day. My cholesterol was in the so-called normal range and I was able to lower the LDL 21 points which changed my risk factor significantly. My risk ratio is below normal range now, with no change in my exercise or diet otherwise.

The matrix of fibers in Bios Life® 2 definitely changed my risk of developing the number-one killer in the United Sates. As a pathologist, I studied the effects of cholesterol on our arteries and the scientific evidence is clear that we can make changes in our risk by using Bios Life® 2 daily.
